THE WAKING DRONE, a soundscape by LIKE ANIMALS and Viv Yumul is a reflection on the cosmogonic round,
the movement from silence into waking life, and back to silence. (As the syllabic AUM signifies in Hinduism)

Out of the background, the unknowable void space, we most commonly rise into the waking life with a rather half full perception of the world. A conceptual framework hangs like a mesh blanket, evolved as a tool to navigate within a world of "form", guiding both attention and action. In this work we asked, what if we removed the blanket?

The piece is an experience of the fullness of the world surrounded by the eternal space, composed of recordings from Viv's meditations in the forests of the Philippines, kulintang samples, and audio manipulations in reverence to both the constant and the spontaneous.

This is a prelude to what we wish to be a lifetime practice of listening and play to see what is, and to share our findings with all of you.
